Crazy Food Journey

Living with newfound food intolerances (allergies, reactions)

Diagnosing Food Intolerance

on July 14, 2013

Food intolerance really is not recognized by most of the medical community, but it can be very real and painful. Going to a nutritionist is a good option, but there are still other ways to figure out what may be causing your problems.

First of all, you can try cutting things out of your diet one at a time to figure out what may be the problem. This may be cheaper than the next option depending on how long it takes for you to pinpoint what is giving you the trouble. I started with gluten, but felt rather overwhelmed and ended up seeing a nutritionist and doing a blood test.

The blood test is the second option for figuring out your allergies. I had four pages of reactions. At this point we have begun looking at a rotational diet which I will explain better later.

In the meantime, if you are having troubles and suspect your food, try either cutting out what you expect to be the offending food(s) (one food at a time) or getting a doctor to help you get a blood test done.
